There have been reports of players with Windows 7 being mistakenly banned on the recently released Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).

The release of Counter-Strike 2 encounters yet another mishap, as players are now reporting that they’ve been falsely banned for simply operating Windows 7.

Reddit user u/Falconx1337 had shared their experiences with being banned.

“Yesterday on full launch of CS2, I received a game ban (Not VAC) suddenly. I was confused as to why I got it as I never cheated. I also confirmed the authorized devices and it was fine. So I looked on the internet and it seems that Windows 7 that I use is the reason. Other people have shared similar experience in the past week. The ban I got was given by ‘Overwatch investigators’. It said ‘Overwatch investigators then viewed the gameplay footage and determined that external software was used to gain aim, vision, or other unfair assistance’.” he said.

Several other players, such as Symbiosion and NorTH WinD have also encountered this issue, with their experiences listed in this thread.

Windows 7 users cannot directly launch CS2 due to the minimum system requirement of Windows 10, but they can still play CS2 by finding the icon in the CS:GO folder.

Even though it shows “VAC was unable to verify your game session,” if a friend or someone else hosts the lobby and invites them, they can still play together, which is likely where the ban stemmed from.
