Honor Magic 5 Pro is a new flagship phone from Honor, equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 512GB and 12 GB RAM. Right from the get-go Honor made it very clear that the intention with this phone was to be for those that want to create and view content in as high a quality as possible.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro features a wide, vibrant screen, multiple high-quality cameras, and an extremely powerful setup for all your gaming needs. If use primary purpose of a phone is to watch and make content, this is a good choice to consider picking up.

      Design

The Honor Magic 5 Pro that we got came in a vibrant Meadow Green color. It’s a simple design with a clean matte finish (and matte is always better than gloss since they attacked fewer fingerprints) but I really like the gold glitter finish around the back of the phone, giving it a nice shine that makes the design stand out.

The phone uses a Star Wheel Triple Camera setup, similar to an iPhone but in the top center of the device. I know some people find these a little weird to look at but I’m fine with it. It’s pretty unique and makes it easy to position shots.

It further also comes with a double speaker setup with one at the bottom and one at the top. At the bottom alongside the speaker, there’s a sim card slot, which is incredibly practical for a phone to have. Being able to quickly transfer data manually from the phone to a computer is a great convenience if you’re using it for things like photography and video recording.

Since the Honor Magic 5 Pro is 162.9 x 76.7 mm in size and weighs only 219g, it’s a little on the big side but that also means a bigger screen which makes watching movies and videos far nicer. Overall it feels pretty relaxing to use the phone to watch movies, series, or YouTube with its big screen.

      Screen

Speaking of the screen, the Honor Magic 5 Pro has an OLED 6.81-inch screen with a resolution of 2848×1312 and is also equipped with Quad-Curved Floating Screen technology. The screen used is an LTPO type, capable of providing an adaptive dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz allowing for a smooth transition between different video scenes.

With a large screen size and a high refresh rate, I can say that I am very satisfied watching videos on it. The fact that it has a peak brightness of 1800 nits, means that it’s very suitable for use even under sunlight. On the other hand, it also has high-frequency PWM Dimming that can support up to 2160Hz allowing for a comfortable viewing experience even in pitch darkness. It’s the first smartphone to be certified by The TÜV Rheinland Circadian Friendly Certification and it certainly earns the approval.

      Camera

Honor Magic 5 Pro is equipped with a Star Wheel Triple Camera setup where the first is a 50MP Wide Main Camera, a 50MP Ultra Wide Camera (2.5cm macro & 122o Ultra-Wide FOV), and a 50MP Periscope Telephoto Camera (3.5x optical zoom & 100x digital zoom).

What’s most interesting about the phone’s camera however is the AI Motion Sensing Capture which is able to capture fast action very well. Even sloppy photography like myself can take good pictures of moving objects with this whether during the day, noon, or night and it can do so with very natural colors. The high-quality camera also means that videos produced using the phone are very smooth, with even an amateur being able to catch some cool shots.

      Gaming Performance

      honor magic 5 pro

Honor Magic 5 Pro is a flagship phone that is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and comes with 512GB ROM and 12GB RAM. From what I’ve tested, the phone has a lot of advantages if you are interested in gaming, videography, and content creation because you will get bigger storage and RAM.

For the gaming performance, I really love how the Honor Magic is able to tame even the most demanding of games. Even after playing a variety of titles for hours on end, the phone still has a good amount of battery and is comfortable to play with.

      honor magic 5 pro

I played Genshin Impact for one hour straight on the Honor Magic 5 Pro and it ran smoothly with plenty of battery to spare. I also tried a couple of MOBA games like Mobile Legends and Wild Rift and likewise, there was no issue even when playing online (although you’ll still need a decent internet connection).

The device also comes with a Game Manager that controls the performance. There are two modes that you can choose between, Balanced Mode which gives a balance of resolution and performance, and Game Mode which focuses more on FPS. These can be used with certain games like Genshin Impact and allow for a good bit of customization. Both modes worked fine although I preferred Game Mode since I like to have the gameplay run smoothly even if it means it’s not as sharp as it could be. The CPU and RAM usage is also located here if you want to measure the exact performance.

Overall, gaming on the Honor Magic 5 Pro was a great experience, allowing me to play many games without any lag or stuttering.

      Battery Life

      honor magic 5 pro

The Honor Magic 5 Pro is equipped with a 5100mAh battery which is a large capacity for a phone. This means that even if you play a game for a one-hour session, the device could still last for the rest of the day without another charge. When I played Genshin Impact for an hour, the battery used was only around 10-15%.

Furthermore, the phone supports incredibly quick charging of up to 11V/6A and only takes 34 minutes to reach 100% from 65%. This means that even if you only have a short amount of time to charge it, it could still be near the max battery and you’ll be able to use it for hours on end. It’s very reliable if you want to go out anywhere without a charging port.

      Closing Thoughts

      honor magic 5 pro

In my opinion, Honor Magic 5 Pro is a good flagship smartphone that excels in gaming, photography, and overall content creation. The large screen allows for crisp images and along with the powerful battery means you can go for a whole day without the need for a charger.

Overall, The Honor Magic 5 Pro is a good flagship phone that will suit those looking for a more powerful device to take on the more demanding tasks like recording and gaming that makeup so much of the modern world.
