The new Playstation Plus subscription service has arrived in Malaysia, and you’ll need to upgrade it if you want to access the offerings in the upper tiers. Here’s how to do it:

LAUNCH THE PS STORE ON YOUR CONSOLE

You’ll want to find the Playstation Plus and other subscriptions section.

SELECT PLAYSTATION PLUS AND HIT UPGRADE

All existing subscriptions are on the Essential tier, so you’ll then need to choose what to upgrade it to.

In the below example, the Extra upgrade will be an additional RM91.31 to enjoy the upgrade for the remainder of the Essential tier plan, and is RM269 for the subsequent 12 months. The same process applies to the Deluxe upgrade, requiring an additional RM124.51 then RM309 on the next billing cycle.

To be clear, the initial top up price is to upgrade your existing plan, and you will be billed according to the remaining time of your plan. Therefore, if you have been “stacking” subscription renewals totalling more than 12 months remaining, the upgrade price will differ accordingly.

You can manage your subscription through the Playstation website as well. Here’s how you do it:

• Select Subscriptions Management
• Change Plan

With regards to the upgrade and billing process for your Playstation Plus subscription, you’re done.

EXTRA TIER: GAME CATALOG

The Extra tier will get you access to the Game Catalog. On the Playstation 5, you can get games like these:

DELUXE TIER: CLASSICS CATALOG, GAME TRIALS

The Deluxe tier, meanwhile, adds on the Classics Catalog (currently consisting of PSP, PS1 and PS2 titles), and Game Trials.

If you simply wanted access to a larger game catalog, the Extra tier should be more than sufficient for your needs. It also costs roughly around the same price of One game on the console, with the subscription offering, well, more than that.

However, consider the Deluxe upgrade for a mere RM40 extra for Trials and Classics. The Trials offerings will certainly serve you well if you need more time to decide whether to commit towards a full game. Meanwhile, the Classics catalog can tide you over the nostalgia hit when you’re busy praying to a deity for some by-gone days title to get a remaster someday.

The region doesn’t have Playstation Now just yet, but we can only expect it to be a matter of time till the library becomes an overwhelming buffet of choice and value for money.
