Detective pikachu 2 is apparently still in development

Detective Pikachu 2, which was announced to be in development in 2019, has been confirmed to still be in development according to a recent recruitment advertisement from developer Creatures Inc.

In a recruitment advertisement on Creatures Inc.’s website, translated by VGC, a programmer referred to as ‘KT’ says that he has been working on a second Detective Pikachu game:

“working on the sequel to Detective Pikachu, programming the drawing area, while also creating a system in the Environment Development Office that will serve as the foundation for future game production in general.”

This confirms that despite the lack of new information about the sequel to the 2016 game, it is at least still in development.

The advertisement goes on to state that the company has been developing the models used in the mainline Pokemon games and wishes to incorporate cutting-edge graphics into their future titles.

KT says “With new technologies appearing every day, I believe that ray tracing, which calculates the color and brightness of objects by tracking light rays, and super-resolution technologies such as DLSS will become indispensable

I am also paying attention to technologies introduced in the latest game engines such as Unreal Engine 5.”

Whether this potential game could lead to Detective Pikachu movie 2 is unknown. Justice Smith, who played Tim, the protagonist of the first movie has said that he does not think a sequel is going to be likely.

“I would love to participate in Detective Pikachu 2, I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I think we have to just kind of bury our hopes. I don’t think it’s going to happen. I really hope so though. Honestly, I’m such a huge fan, who knows, who knows? I hope so.”

The original Detective Pikachu, a Pheonix Wright-style adventure game with pokemon is available for 3DS. The new game is supposed to release for the Nintendo Switch.
