The event took place over two days, on May 9 and May 10, 2026, at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in Selangor, Malaysia, drawing thousands of players and fans from across the country.

Record-Breaking Attendance Growth

This year’s edition recorded a total of 4,280 attendees, representing a 176 percent increase compared to the previous year. The growth highlights the rising popularity of competitive Pokémon in Malaysia, alongside expanding community engagement across both competitive and casual audiences.

A total of 1,752 players competed in the main tournament, covering both Trading Card Game (TCG) and Video Game Championships (VGC) divisions. This strong competitive turnout formed the core of the event and reflected the increasing depth of Malaysia’s high-level Pokémon player base.

Organisers expanded the event experience with additional attractions such as Pokémon MEZASTAR machines, beginner-friendly Pokémon Trading Card Game trial sessions, and a hands-on area featuring the Nintendo Switch 2, which drew strong interest from attendees throughout the weekend.

Pokémon Champions Makes Competitive Debut

One of the biggest highlights of 2025–26 Malaysia Master Ball League was the debut of Pokémon Champions, which delivered fast-paced and highly competitive matches across the event.

According to organisers, participation linked to the new title surged by 217 percent compared to previous competitive entries for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The strong turnout suggests growing interest in more accessible and streamlined competitive formats, especially as the mobile release of Pokémon Champions approaches.

Pathway To The World Stage

Top performers from both the TCG and VGC divisions secured invitations to the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, which will take place in August 2026 in San Francisco, United States. These players will represent Malaysia on the global competitive stage after their strong performances at the national level.
