Wizard101 will officially launch on Nintendo Switch on January 13, developer KingsIsle Entertainment has confirmed. The magic school-themed MMORPG continues its console expansion following its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release in October 2024. With the Nintendo Switch launch, the long-running title reaches a new audience on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.
A Paid Entry on Nintendo’s Platform

Unlike the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, which players can download for free, the Nintendo Switch edition adopts a different pricing approach. Players must purchase the game for USD 19.99 (around MYR 80), which grants full access to the first of the game’s five main story arcs. Additional content unlocks as players progress by using Crowns, the game’s premium currency.
Despite the paid entry model, the Nintendo Switch version integrates fully with the existing console ecosystem. Nintendo Switch players connect to the same servers as PlayStation and Xbox users, allowing them to quest, battle, and socialize together without restriction. This shared server structure helps preserve the multiplayer experience that defines Wizard101.
From PC Classic to Console Staple

KingsIsle Entertainment originally launched Wizard101 on PC in September 2008. Over the years, the game has built a loyal fanbase through frequent updates and story expansions. Players can still access the PC version through a dedicated client or via Steam.
The transition to consoles has helped modernize the experience while keeping its core mechanics intact. The Switch release further strengthens Wizard101’s presence beyond PC, making it more accessible to players who prefer console gaming.
Life as a Student of Magic

Wizard101 places players in the role of a young wizard enrolled at Ravenwood School of Magical Arts. A growing dark force threatens Wizard City and the wider realms of The Spiral. Players uncover the mystery behind a rogue professor while pushing back against the spreading corruption.
Combat focuses on turn-based card battles that reward planning and strategy. Players build customized spell decks before encounters and adjust tactics depending on the enemy. The system emphasizes smart decision-making rather than fast reactions.
More Than Just Questing

Outside of the main story, Wizard101 offers a wide range of side activities. Players can raise and train pets, craft gear, tend magical gardens, fish for rare items, or decorate personal castles. Competitive players can also enter the arena to test their deck-building skills in ranked PvP battles.
With more than 20 worlds to explore and hundreds of hours of content available, Wizard101’s Nintendo Switch debut delivers a full-featured MMORPG experience. For newcomers and veterans alike, the January 13 launch marks another milestone for a game that continues to evolve after more than a decade.
