Nintendo is pushing production of the Switch 2 higher than its official sales forecast, with the company aiming to manufacture 20 million consoles by March 2027, according to a report from Bloomberg.
Earlier this month, Nintendo posted its financial results, stating it expects to sell 16.5 million Switch 2 units during its current business year, which runs until April 2027. That number is lower than the 19.86 million units sold in the previous year. However, the production target of 20 million units sits roughly 20% above that official sales projection.

Industry analyst Serkan Toto weighed in on Nintendo’s approach when speaking to Bloomberg. “For them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later,” he said. “The just-finished fiscal year is a good example.”
Along with the production news, Nintendo has confirmed price increases for the Switch 2 across several major markets, set to take effect on September 1, 2026. In the United States, the console will go up by $50, bringing it to $499.99. European buyers will see a 30 Euro increase, landing at 499.99 Euros, while Canadian prices rise by $50 to $679.99.
In Japan, the price changes arrive sooner, taking effect next week. Nearly all of Nintendo’s hardware line is going up by around 10,000 yen. The Japan-only region-locked Switch 2 will be priced at 59,980 yen, the Switch OLED at 47,980 yen, the Switch Lite at 29,980 yen, and the standard Switch at 43,980 yen.

Nintendo explained the decision in a statement: “In light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook, Nintendo will revise the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices of the Nintendo Switch 2 system and Nintendo Switch systems.” On the software side, the latest first-party Switch 2 title, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, released this week. The game received a positive reception, with reviewers noting it “powers along with the kind of breathless imagination typically associated with mainline Super Mario adventures.”
