A live-action TV series based on the popular Persona video game franchise is reportedly in the works at Netflix. The news comes from a Variety report, though Netflix declined to comment when reached for confirmation.
According to the report, Christopher Monfette is attached to write the series and will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. Monfette has previous TV writing credits on shows like “12 Monkeys,” “Star Trek: Picard,” and “9-1-1.” He’s also currently working as a writer and co-executive producer on the upcoming Marvel series “VisionQuest” for Disney+.
Joining him as executive producers are Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps, along with Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson of Story Kitchen. Sega’s Toru Nakahara will also executive produce the series.
Persona has built a large following since it first launched in 1996 as a spinoff of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Developed by P-Studio, a division of ATLUS, and published by SEGA, the franchise typically follows Japanese high school students balancing everyday school life and friendships with battles against supernatural enemies. There have been six mainline entries so far, along with 15 spinoff titles. The franchise remains active on the gaming side as well. A remake titled Persona 4 Revival is set to release on February 18, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. With Persona 6, the next mainline entry currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
