Resident Evil Requiem gives players the freedom to switch between third-person and first-person views when playing as either Leon Kennedy or Grace Ashcroft. By default, Leon’s sections start in third person and Grace’s in first person. But it turns out most players never touched those settings.
In a post-launch interview with Denfaminicogamer, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa shared player data gathered one month after the game’s release. For Leon’s action-heavy sections, about 90% of players kept the default third-person view during their first playthrough. Grace’s horror-focused sections were a closer split, with 60% staying in first person and 40% switching over to third person.
The data also showed differences based on region and platform. Players in Japan and the rest of Asia were more likely to go third person overall. PC players, on the other hand, leaned more toward first person.

These numbers line up closely with what the developers already noticed during Requiem’s show floor demo. From that earlier data, the team observed that where someone grew up gaming may play a role in their perspective preference. Western players, who often grew up with first-person shooters like Doom, tended to favor first person.
Meanwhile, players from Japan and other parts of Asia, who were more commonly raised on third-person RPGs like Dragon Quest, leaned toward that view instead. The developers noted this does not apply to everyone, but it is a factor worth paying attention to for the Resident Evil series going forward. Resident Evil Requiem is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
