Mobile midcore games had a rough second quarter in 2026, according to new data from AppMagic. Revenue for the segment fell 9.9% compared to the first quarter, while downloads slipped 2.2%, undoing a small rebound seen earlier in the year.

At the top of the charts, Honor of Kings by Tencent kept its long-held top spot despite a 15% drop in in-app purchase revenue. Last War: Survivor by FUNFLY and PUBG MOBILE, also from Tencent, each fell harder, dropping roughly 30% in revenue and losing several ranking spots. That opened room for Whiteout Survival by Century Games, which climbed from fourth to second place while staying largely flat in revenue, helped by its live events strategy.

Sports games had a strong quarter too, boosted by the FIFA World Cup 2026. eFootball by KONAMI was the top-earning sports title, landing at number eight overall, while EA SPORTS FC Soccer Mobile 26 and Football League 2026 ranked among the most downloaded games in the category.
Supercell saw mixed results. Clash Royale dropped out of the top ten grossing games after last quarter’s comeback, but Brawl Stars picked up the slack, growing 29% quarter over quarter and posting its best month of the quarter in May at 38 million dollars, a solid recovery from its slump in late 2025.
Looking at genres, Strategy and RPG, the two largest midcore subgenres, both saw revenue fall even as downloads grew year over year, by 14% and 10.4% respectively. Big titles like Honkai: Star Rail, Genshin Impact, and Fate/Grand Order all earned less than they did a year earlier.

Shooter games moved the opposite way, with revenue up 13.9% year over year even as downloads slowed, led by strong growth in Tactical and Extraction Shooter. Sports games also grew, up 9.1% in revenue, with new releases doing well too, including four new titles that crossed 100,000 downloads by June. RPG led in new releases overall, with 754 new titles launched in the quarter, and Strategy saw a standout newcomer in Police Chief by VoyagerOne, which earned 6.7 million dollars in its first few months.
The report shows a market that’s slowing in some areas while still shifting in others, with individual games and genres moving in different directions even as the overall numbers cool down.
