Yacht Club Games, the acclaimed studio behind the hugely popular Shovel Knight, has officially announced that Mina the Hollower will launch on May 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GOG, and Humble Store.
The game will be priced at $19.99 (approximately RM94), making it one of the more affordable indie releases arriving later this month. Yacht Club Games also confirmed that the previously announced PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are no longer planned.
Following years of anticipation since its original reveal, Mina the Hollower is finally preparing to bring its retro-inspired gothic adventure to players across modern platforms.
A New Adventure From the Creators of Shovel Knight

Best known for creating the critically acclaimed Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games has built a strong reputation for delivering retro-inspired games with polished gameplay and memorable presentation. With Mina the Hollower, the studio is shifting toward a darker gothic atmosphere while still retaining the precise gameplay design and pixel-art charm fans associate with its previous work.
The game follows Mina, a famous Hollower sent on a dangerous mission to rescue a cursed island consumed by darkness and monsters. Players will explore interconnected environments, battle horrifying creatures, uncover secrets, and encounter strange characters throughout the journey.
Inspired heavily by classic Game Boy Color aesthetics, Mina the Hollower combines old-school visuals with modern gameplay enhancements, including widescreen presentation, smoother animation, and refined controls.
Fast-Paced Combat and Burrowing Mechanics

One of the game’s defining mechanics is Mina’s ability to burrow underground. Players can dive beneath hazards, dodge enemy attacks, and quickly reposition themselves during combat and exploration.
Mina primarily fights using her whip known as Nightstar, but players will also gain access to multiple weapons and sidearms that drastically alter combat styles. According to Yacht Club Games, each weapon features unique move sets, allowing players to experiment with different approaches during battles.
The game also includes Trinkets and Sidearms that grant additional effects and abilities, giving players more customization options as they progress through the adventure.
Boss encounters appear to be another major focus, with the latest trailer showcasing several large enemies and challenging combat sequences that lean into the game’s dark Victorian horror inspirations.
A Gothic World Inspired by Retro Classics

While Shovel Knight embraced bright and colorful fantasy themes, Mina the Hollower adopts a noticeably darker tone inspired by Victorian Gothic horror stories. The game’s world is filled with eerie towns, mysterious ruins, cursed landscapes, and unsettling creatures lurking in the shadows.
Yacht Club Games describes the experience as both “bone-chilling” and “heartwarming,” suggesting the narrative will blend horror themes with emotional storytelling and quirky character interactions.
The soundtrack is also expected to be a major highlight. The game features music composed by renowned chiptune composer Jake Kaufman, whose previous work on Shovel Knight became one of the indie scene’s most celebrated retro soundtracks.
Mina the Hollower Releases Later This Month

With its striking pixel-art visuals, fast-paced combat, gothic atmosphere, and classic adventure game inspirations, Mina the Hollower is shaping up to be one of the standout indie releases of 2026.
The game officially launches on May 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GOG, and Humble Store for $19.99 (around RM94).
