Publisher Whitethorn Games and developer Ephemera have announced that Kernel Hearts is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. These versions will launch alongside the previously confirmed PC release via Steam. In addition, players on PC will be able to try the game early through a demo, which is set to go live on March 31. The teams also confirmed that a collaboration with Fortnite is currently in the works, though further details have yet to be revealed.
A Dark Roguelike Action RPG with Co-op at Its Core

Kernel Hearts blends fast-paced action RPG combat with roguelike progression and cooperative multiplayer. Players take on the role of operatives from the M.A.H.O.U Unit, a group tasked with scaling the ominous Tower of Babel. Their mission is as bold as it is dire: eliminate angelic enemies, dethrone God, and save a world reduced to ashes.

Each run through the tower offers a different experience. Combat focuses on mixing attacks, spells, and movement abilities to create powerful combinations on the fly. Because no two runs play out the same way, experimentation becomes a core part of the experience. The game also supports cooperative play, allowing up to four players to team up and face increasingly dangerous enemies together.
Progression, Customization, and Transformation

Between expeditions, players return to a laboratory located near humanity’s last stronghold. This hub acts as both a narrative anchor and a progression space. Here, rewards earned from previous runs can be spent to upgrade and customize a Unit’s MAHOU.OS system. Players can equip up to 256KB of chips, tailoring their build to suit different playstyles and strategies.

One of the game’s standout mechanics is its magical transformation system. By harnessing the power of the tower, players can temporarily dispel the Heavenly Curse and transform into their true form. This transformation unleashes a devastating attack and grants a short burst of overwhelming power, often turning the tide of difficult encounters.
Characters, Bonds, and What’s Next

Beyond combat, Kernel Hearts places emphasis on its cast of characters. Throughout the tower, players will meet unique inhabitants and allies. By interacting with them and offering gifts, players can deepen their bonds, adding a more personal layer to the otherwise relentless climb.

With confirmed releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, Kernel Hearts is positioning itself as a fully multiplatform experience. The upcoming PC demo in March should offer players their first hands-on look at its systems, while the teased Fortnite collaboration hints at even bigger plans ahead.
