Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has indicated that Square Enix is actively considering additional character customization options for the long-running MMORPG. While he stopped short of confirming specific features, Yoshida emphasized that the development team has already laid the groundwork to support further customization in future updates.
These comments surfaced shortly after the launch of Patch 7.4, Into the Mist, which arrived on December 16. The update delivered new main scenario quests tied to the Ninth Shard, concluded the Arcadion raid series, and introduced notable Job balance adjustments, including unexpected changes to Gunbreaker and Red Mage.
Patch 7.4 Arrives Amid Ongoing Server Issues

Despite the scope of Patch 7.4’s content, its release did not come without complications. Players across North American data centers, including Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis, experienced frequent disconnects following the update. Square Enix deployed a Christmas Day hotfix to address several bugs, but the server instability persisted beyond that patch.
The technical issues somewhat overshadowed the narrative and gameplay additions, though Square Enix has continued to acknowledge the problems while working on longer-term solutions.
Customization and Quality-of-Life Features Under Review

During the 48th Korean Live Letter broadcast, Yoshida addressed player questions about both the global and Korean versions of Final Fantasy XIV. When asked directly about character customization, he stated that the team has prepared the foundation for expanded options, suggesting that future updates could build on existing systems rather than require a full overhaul.
Yoshida also confirmed that the team is reviewing several community-requested quality-of-life features. These include potential updates to Explorer Mode, possibly allowing Alliance Raid instances, and the idea of selling older relic weapons through vendors to help reduce inventory clutter.
He further noted that the Korean version of the game will reach parity with the global and Chinese clients by Patch 7.5, currently scheduled for spring 2026.
Patch 7.5, Ultimate Raids, and Future Content

Patch 7.5 will mark another major milestone for Final Fantasy XIV. Square Enix plans to introduce the next Ultimate raid alongside additional features, including the long-awaited Beastmaster Limited Job. These additions aim to maintain player engagement as Dawntrail approaches its later update cycle.
Yoshida also mentioned that character skin tone adjustments are among the customization elements under consideration, reinforcing player speculation that visual diversity remains a development priority.
FanFest, Switch 2 Speculation, and What Comes Next

Following a Q&A session with players on Japan’s Pandaemonium server, Yoshida hinted that more information about Final Fantasy XIV’s future would surface during upcoming FanFest events. He encouraged fans to watch closely, particularly the North American FanFest scheduled for April 24 and 25, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center.
During the discussion, Yoshida also appeared to acknowledge the possibility of a future Nintendo Switch 2 port. Given Square Enix’s experience with recent Nintendo hardware and Final Fantasy XIV’s existing performance on Steam Deck, the idea no longer seems far-fetched.
With seasonal events like Heavensturn currently underway and another major expansion announcement expected soon, Final Fantasy XIV appears poised for a busy and transformative 2026.
