Crystal Dynamics was present at gamescom 2026 to showcase an extended look at their take on Lara Croft’s first splash into gamers’ living rooms in 1996. Arek Tomaszewski played Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis with Crystal Dynamics experience director Jeff Adams, where they said that they remained respectful to the original source material while bringing their own flavour.
Adventure beyond legend.

For starters, the preview gave players a glimpse of the classic environmental puzzles. This time, however, they come in the form of structures that are in line with Peruvian culture, which makes the game feel more realistic.
Legacy of Atlantis also looks spectacular, having been built entirely on Unreal Engine 5. The lengthy gameplay demonstration showcased its visuals through its breathtaking waterfalls, jungle, and, of course, ancient temples.

The developers are also placing greater emphasis on freedom of exploration. They shared how they designed levels with more space that encourages players to search for hidden paths to discover rewarding secrets.
Lara’s polished combat system was also showcased in perhaps the main attraction of the showcase, the dinosaurs’ appearance. Armed with her iconic dual pistols, Lara was able to shoot and swiftly dodge her enemies. The game also showcased the new slow-motion attack, where she did a mid-air cartwheel while simultaneously shooting at one velociraptor.
Crystal Dynamics’ hands-on demo ended with a cinematic chase sequence that left our heroine falling with a raptor.
Overall, the remake is shaping up to be a must-play for newcomers and returning players, with it staying faithful to the original 1996 adventure while bringing new ideas. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is currently scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
