A PlayStation 5 exclusive that once generated strong interest may no longer be in active development. Recent reports claim that Ballad of Antara, a Souls-inspired action RPG that drew frequent comparisons to Black Myth: Wukong, has been canceled. The news has surprised many players, especially given how far along the project appeared to be.

Ballad of Antara first captured attention during the May 2024 PlayStation State of Play showcase. The reveal highlighted striking visuals, Chinese fantasy influences, and large-scale boss encounters. A longer gameplay demo followed in September 2024, further reinforcing interest in the project. Since then, official updates have completely stopped, raising concerns about the game’s status.
How the Cancellation Rumours Surfaced

Speculation began on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit. A user noticed that a concept artist linked to Ballad of Antara shared artwork online and stated that the project tied to it had been canceled. Although the artist later deleted the post, PlayStation LifeStyle reportedly preserved evidence of the claim.
Additional details came from older social media posts by a Chinese insider known as ignusthewise. These posts appeared in September 2025 but went largely unnoticed at the time. In hindsight, they now align closely with the current rumours surrounding the game’s cancellation.
Studio Restructuring and Development Challenges

According to reports cited by PlayStation LifeStyle, Paper Games, the parent company of developer TipsWorks, went through a major restructuring in January of last year. This move reportedly reduced the TipsWorks team from around 120 developers to roughly 20. With such a limited team, continuing work on a large-scale action RPG would have posed serious challenges.
Neither TipsWorks nor publisher Infold Games has released an official statement. However, the absence of communication since late 2024 has fueled doubts. The situation looks more concerning given that the game originally targeted a 2025 release window.
A Promising Game Left Behind

If the reports prove accurate, the loss of Ballad of Antara would mark a missed opportunity. The gameplay demo revealed some clear issues, especially enemies with excessive health. Even so, the game showed strong potential. Its environments looked detailed, enemy designs felt imaginative, and boss fights aimed for spectacle. Chinese cultural elements and a unique companion character added charm and identity.
With further refinement, especially to combat balance, the game could have stood out in a crowded Souls-like market.
Is There Still Hope for Ballad of Antara

The situation remains uncertain. The artist who mentioned the cancellation later removed the post and created a new account. That action has led some fans to believe the project may be on hold rather than fully scrapped.
Until TipsWorks or Infold Games makes an official announcement, questions will remain. Still, given PlayStation’s recent history of canceling ambitious projects, many players fear Ballad of Antara may never see release.
