Asus ROG Strix SCAR III (G531GW) Review – small but powerful laptop

Previously, ASUS sent us  ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX502 back in a while. This time they sent us another laptop which is ASUS ROG Strix III – G531GW. We are grateful that they let us have a taste of the this powerful laptop and experience it on the first hand. ASUS ROG Strix III have the best specs in the gaming market but is it worth its price? Without further ado, let just jump into it.

Design

ASUS ROG Strix III might looked like just another regular laptop but don’t be fooled by its appearance. With the ROG logo pop out on the gunmetal grey finish 15.6 inch wide screen, you might noticed there fine lines on the top of the lid. Those fine lines are not just for the sake of the decoration. It is craved that way for cooling advantage with its 3D Flow Zone. Thanks to their collaboration with  BMW Designworks Group.

When you turn on the laptop, you will be greeted with whole lot of different story.  There is an RGB LED strip wrapped around the underside rim of the frame on this laptop. They even throw in the logo and the backlit keyboard as well as why not, right? With the power laptop turned on, the laptop design just SCREAMS e-sports gamers or gamers in general with their multicolour Aura Sync lighting. What’s better you can even control the lighting of the laptop with the help of the ROG Armoury Crate software.

What we really want to show you gamers is their ROG KEYSTONE. This keystone saves your Armoury Crate information. Allowing you to sync into you personal settings and then activate them whenever the key is plugged into your laptop which is pretty neat. Besides that, the keystone unlocks a hidden drive called “Shadow Drive”. This keystone acts as your additional storage and can store your confidential data which you don’t want it to fall to the wrong hands.

Specification

The screen for the laptop that we get 15.6 inch and comes with Full HD ( 1920x 1080 ) IPS-level panel and 240Hz and 100% RGB. It also comes with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 and 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. You can imagine the raw power that this laptop waiting to be unleashed for your ultimate gaming experience.

Scar III with its fairly small size 360 (W) x 275 (D) x 24.9 (H) mm and the weight as heavy as 2.57 kg. It is fairly easy to carry around the laptop everywhere you go. Making your gaming experience to be enjoyed at anywhere and anytime. It’s powered by Intel Core i7-9750H making it fully support Windows 10 PRO. Scar III has built in WiFi with the help of OG RangeBoost technology which ensures you to have the most stable internet connection plus Bluetooth 5.0. The downside is there is no webcam attached onto the laptop.

With all that power can be controlled in the the tips of your fingernail with the ROG Armoury Crate at your side. In this software you can control everything you desired including the CPU, GPU, fan power, memory storage and many more.

Gaming Performance

With all the specification, it is surely does not disappoint us with its performance. I mean what is the use of gaming laptop when it can’t run high graphics games? We tried playing couple of games while using the laptop.  Even while playing with high graphics, the game still runs smoothly as it should be.

After playing for couple of hours, we started to notice the laptop start to heat up. Another downside is that the fans running is loud that its hardly for making you not notice it. It was fine at first for us when playing the game but eventually it is kinda annoying.

We also run some benchmark test to show you guys how powerful this laptop runs. The results we have received has shown us that laptop gives great results!

Verdict

This laptop is great for those who is searching a great portable gaming laptop. I would reccommend to you guys to buy this laptop. The only downshort for this laptop is the fans. With being able to play high graphic games and smooth performance, I guess the fans take the price for it? This laptop is also perfect for those that wants to search for gaming laptop that screams “I am proud to be a gamer” but it is not suitable for those who wants to livestream.  The price for the laptop starts from RM 6,999 but the model we received is worth RM 7,999.
