One of the most anticipated PSP remakes, Fate/EXTRA Record, just got picked up by Aniplex after Bandai Namco stepped away from the project back in March. Developers TYPE-MOON and TYPE-MOON studio BB also shared details regarding major restructuring in the game’s development.

Fate/EXTRA Record director Kazuya Niino has also resigned from his position and asked that his name be removed from the game’s staff credits. Niino isn’t just stepping away from the game, but from game development altogether, citing health concerns as the reason.

The remake of the 2010 classic was initially announced back in 2020, targeting a release for both PS4 and PS5, as well as Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. It promised a faithful modernization of the game while revamping its visuals and gameplay.

Fate/EXTRA Record is a single-player dungeon-crawler JRPG that features turn-based combat. Players take control of Hakuno Kishinami, who awakens with amnesia in a strange virtual world who are forced to battle to the death alongside their chosen “Servant” to earn a granted wish.

Since then, a 2025 release date window was announced before being delayed to Spring 2026. After the structural shake-ups, no new release date was announced. For now, fans will have to wait for further details on the new website, where the devs promise to post more updates in September. Meanwhile, the current official website and social media accounts will close on Monday, September 7.
