Kingdom Hearts fans got two big pieces of news out of Disney Entertainment’s D23 showcase in Anaheim. The first is a release date for Kingdom Hearts IV, which is now set for late 2027. This was shared in a new showcase trailer that also revealed a world based on Pixar’s Coco. The second announcement is a Kingdom Hearts anime series. Disney confirmed the show is coming “soon” to Disney Channel and Disney+, though no release date or production details have been shared yet.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, spoke about the anime series. She said Kingdom Hearts has drawn in gamers with its mix of adventure and imagination, and that there is something exciting about turning a world fans have explored for years through games into a new format. She added that the creative team is working closely with series creator Tetsuya Nomura to make sure the show stays true to Kingdom Hearts while giving fans a new way to experience the story.

Nomura is confirmed to be involved with the anime project. According to Disney, the series will expand on the Kingdom Hearts universe while celebrating the characters that have connected with fans around the world. Between the release window for the Kingdom Hearts IV and the reveal of a new anime series, D23 turned out to be a packed day for the Kingdom Hearts franchise, giving fans plenty to look forward to on two different fronts.
