Apple Arcade is adding another big name to its sports lineup. Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition will launch on the service on August 6, bringing EA’s long-running football franchise to iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.
Apple’s senior director of Apple Arcade, Alex Rofman, said sports fans now have access to some of the biggest names in gaming all in one place, calling the addition of Madden a long-awaited moment for the service. EA’s vice president of Franchise Strategy and Marketing, Evan Dexter, added that Apple Arcade gives players a full, uncompromised football experience whether they’re on the go with an iPhone or playing with others on Apple TV.

The game is built specifically for Apple Arcade and focuses on a season-based experience using current NFL teams with realistic, simulation-style gameplay. Players can jump into the familiar Franchise and Quick Play modes, with player ratings based on real NFL performances. Franchise mode also includes a weekly story engine, letting players act as general manager, deal with season storylines, keep fans happy, and try to build a winning team. The game supports controllers across all compatible Apple devices and, like other Arcade titles, has no ads or in-app purchases.
Madden isn’t the only football title arriving that day. Retro Bowl College+, a spinoff of the popular pixel-art Retro Bowl series, also releases on August 6. It lets players take on the role of head coach for one of 250 college teams. Football fans have more to look forward to after that.

On September 3, NFL Retro Bowl ’27 begins a new season and introduces a new Gauntlet Mode. In this mode, players start with limited resources and must win 15 games in a row against a mix of safer and riskier opponents, choosing along the way between rewards like real NFL players or useful perks. Progress carries over even after a loss, building toward a final matchup against a rival team and a spot on the weekly leaderboard. With Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition, Retro Bowl College+, and the upcoming Retro Bowl ’27 season, Apple Arcade is set to offer one of its strongest football lineups yet heading into the new NFL season.
