Forza Horizon 6 is making a notable design change for its Japan-inspired open world, as developer Playground Games confirms that players will not be able to destroy certain culturally significant elements within the game world.

The decision reflects a growing industry-wide effort to balance open-world freedom with cultural sensitivity, especially in games set in real-world-inspired locations. While the Forza Horizon series is known for its high-speed, fully destructible environments, the latest entry takes a more selective approach to environmental damage in order to respect Japan’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

According to the development team, certain trees and structures in the Japan-based map have been made indestructible, particularly cherry blossom trees and select cultural landmarks. Design director Torben Ellert described the game as a “simcade” experience, blending realistic driving physics with arcade-style freedom.
