Subnautica 2 had a massive opening weekend. Developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment announced that the game’s Early Access version sold over two million copies within just 12 hours of its launch. Even more impressive, one million of those sales happened in the very first hour alone.
The game launched in Early Access on May 14 for Xbox Series and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store. It is also available through Game Pass.

Following launch, Subnautica 2 claimed the number-one spot on Steam’s global top sellers charts and held that position across multiple countries.
On the player count side, the game peaked at over 651,000 concurrent players combined across Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series. Steam alone hit a peak of more than 467,000 concurrent players. That number is roughly nine times the all-time peak of the original Subnautica, which launched back in 2018.
The launch also made a big splash on streaming platforms. On Twitch, Subnautica 2 reached more than 413,000 peak concurrent viewers, ranking first across all categories. On YouTube Live, it pulled in over 109,000 peak concurrent viewers, landing at number one in the gaming category.

Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide. The gam also introduces optional cooperative play for up to four players, which is new to the series.
