Marvel Rivals Season 8 is leaning fully into chaotic superhero absurdity with the introduction of a brand-new Vanguard hero, Devil Dinosaur, a literal dinosaur joining the roster. The update was revealed by developer NetEase Games, alongside details for the upcoming season titled Sins of Alchemax, which launches on March 15.
The new season is shaping up to be one of the game’s most content-packed updates yet, bringing a new Doom Match map called Alchemax Headquarters, system improvements, accessories, and PC optimization features. However, the standout addition is clearly the new hero that pushes Marvel’s multiverse logic into overdrive.
Devil Dinosaur Is Exactly What It Sounds Like: A Giant Dinosaur

Devil Dinosaur is not a codename, metaphor, or alien creature disguised as something else. It is, quite literally, a massive T. rex-style dinosaur from an alternate Earth in Marvel lore. The character was originally created by Jack Kirby in 1978 and has since appeared across various Marvel comics and animated adaptations, including Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
In Marvel Rivals Season 8, Devil Dinosaur joins as a frontline Vanguard character built for raw melee dominance. According to creative director Guanguang, the character uses its enormous size and physical strength to break enemy formations, applying bleeding effects through powerful bites and crushing attacks.
When its Ultimate ability is activated, Devil Dinosaur transforms into an unstoppable charging force, trampling enemies and disrupting entire team setups with overwhelming presence.
The updated implementation of Devil Dinosaur now also emphasizes forcefield shielding mechanics and enemy control effects, including temporarily locking targets in its jaws during combat sequences.
The Punisher Can Ride a Literal T. Rex Into Battle

The most unexpected twist in the update is the new Team-Up mechanic involving The Punisher. In what might be one of the wildest crossover interactions in recent superhero gaming, Punisher can actually mount Devil Dinosaur and ride into combat.
This ability, called Primal Punishment, allows Punisher to fire his standard weapons while riding the dinosaur, gaining damage reduction and shared healing between the two characters. While mounted, he retains limited offensive options, but the tradeoff is being carried across the battlefield by a literal prehistoric war machine.
The result is exactly as chaotic as it sounds: a heavily armed vigilante riding a roaring dinosaur through enemy lines while teammates try to process what they are witnessing.
Marvel Rivals Keeps Escalating Its Character Madness

Season 8 continues Marvel Rivals’ ongoing trend of pushing increasingly bizarre hero concepts into its roster. While the game already features exaggerated abilities and multiverse-driven character designs, Devil Dinosaur represents a new peak in scale and absurdity.
The addition also highlights how the game is leaning into Marvel’s deep comic history, pulling lesser-used but iconic characters into the spotlight and reimagining them in high-intensity multiplayer combat scenarios.
New Map, Esports Expansion, and Gameplay Updates

Season 8 also adds a new Doom Match map called Alchemax Headquarters, expanding environmental variety and competitive play. The map will arrive shortly after launch on May 28 and is tied to new narrative events involving Cyclops and Moon Girl.
A new competitive map, New York: Lower Manhattan, will also be introduced as part of the esports rotation, adding more strategic diversity for high-level play.
On the competitive side, the Marvel Rivals Ignite esports program moves into Stage 1 with a total prize pool of $650,000. The competition runs in two phases, with Group Stage from May 21 to June 7 and Playoffs from June 25 to July 5. Broadcasts will be available via YouTube and Twitch, with global talent coverage planned for the official esports stream.
A Season Built on Chaos and Creativity

With Devil Dinosaur entering the battlefield and Punisher literally riding it into battle, Season 8 of Marvel Rivals is shaping up to be one of the most unconventional updates in modern hero shooter design. The combination of large-scale destruction, team synergy mechanics, and comic-book-level creativity reinforces the game’s identity as a chaotic alternative within the genre.
Marvel Rivals Season 8: Sins of Alchemax launches on March 15 for consoles and PC, bringing with it one of the most unexpected roster additions the game has seen so far.
