Nintendo has officially announced Star Fox for the Nintendo Switch 2, a reimagined version of the classic Star Fox 64. The game is set to launch on June 25 and is already available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop. The game will cost $49.99 digitally and $59.99 for a physical copy in the US. In Japan, it will be priced at 5,480 yen (digital) and 6,480 yen (physical).
Star Fox is built on the foundation of the original Star Fox 64 for Nintendo 64, but with a complete visual overhaul designed to take full advantage of the Switch 2 hardware. The story follows Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team as they work to stop the villain Andross from taking over the Lylat star system.
The game features new cinematic cutscenes, fully voiced dialogue, and a brand new orchestral soundtrack. Characters and stages have also been redesigned from the ground up.
There are three main modes available:
- Campaign Mode lets players travel across different planets, fly through asteroid fields, and engage in dogfights. Players can choose between Easy and Normal difficulty at the start, with an Expert setting unlockable by earning medals. The route through the game can change depending on player actions, giving the campaign good replay value.
- Challenge Mode lets players revisit cleared stages with new objectives, available in Normal or Expert difficulty.
- Battle Mode is a brand new 4-vs-4 multiplayer mode that splits up to eight players into Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf. It features three stages with different goals, including zone control on Corneria, crystal collecting on Fichina, and cargo retrieval in Sector Y. Players can compete online through private matches or with random players, and local play is also supported.

The game supports Joy-Con 2 mouse controls for solo play in Campaign and Challenge modes, allowing for more precise aiming. Players can also switch between button and mouse controls at any time. When a second player joins, one person can handle flying while the other takes on gunner duty. GameChat is also supported, letting players appear as Fox McCloud or other Star Fox characters through interactive avatars that track facial expressions and movements. AR Filters are included as well, adding Star Fox-themed accessories like ears or a beak to the player’s camera feed.
