Capcom has laid out a clearer direction for the Mega Man franchise as it heads toward its 40th anniversary. Lead producer Shingo Izumi recently spoke with 80 Level about how the company plans to handle the series going forward, touching on new games, legacy collections, and what it all means for the franchise’s future.
Izumi, who serves as the lead producer on the IP, confirmed that two projects are already in the works: Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, which has already launched, and Mega Man Dual Override, which is currently in development with a 2027 release target. Both titles are being built using Capcom’s RE Engine.

A big part of the studio’s strategy is making sure the franchise appeals to both longtime fans and newcomers at the same time. According to Izumi, collection releases are meant to do two things: bring new players into the series and preserve its history. Rather than treating collections and new games as separate efforts, Capcom plans to use them together as part of one unified approach.
The company’s current plan involves alternating between new game releases and collection launches over time. The idea is to keep a more steady and consistent output, which would be a notable change from the franchise’s historically uneven release schedule.

Izumi also emphasized that growing the fan base while staying true to what makes Mega Man what it is remains a core goal throughout all of this.
