Kagura Games and MangaGamer are bringing the legendary Rance series to Steam. Players can look forward to Rance 01 + 02, Rance 03, and Rance IX, with additional titles like Rance X, Rance Quest Magnum, Rance IV, and Sengoku Rance also planned for release.
This move gives both newcomers and longtime fans the chance to experience the series on PC for the first time in a convenient format.
Rance 01 + 02: The Beginning of an Epic
The first two titles, Rance 01 – Quest for Hikari and Rance 02 – The Rebellious Maidens, have been modernized with updated graphics, sound, and a revamped battle system.
In Rance 01, players follow Rance as he searches for Hikari, navigating card-based dungeons and managing combat using weapons, shields, and “chips.” Rance 02 continues in the town of Custom, where Rance confronts four witches threatening the town. Players explore dungeons, avoid traps, solve puzzles, and form alliances to progress the story.
Rance 03: Retaking the Kingdom of Leazas
In Rance 03, the Kingdom of Leazas falls to the invading northern nation of Helman. Princess Lia sends her most trusted servant to find Rance, the only man who can save the kingdom.
Players travel across settlements, clear dungeons, defeat bosses, and recruit party members. Each dungeon uses a card-based navigation system, where the player must choose paths carefully to avoid traps and uncover treasure. This modern remake adds voice acting, updated visuals, and a more strategic battle system combining skills and tactics from previous games.
Rance IX: Leading the Helmanian Revolution
Rance IX takes place in the militant Helmanian Empire, a once-powerful nation in decay. Prince Patton Misnarge, who was exiled years ago, returns with a plan to restore his country. He enlists Rance and a small elite force to lead a revolution against the corrupt regime.
Players command the Revolutionary Army in tactical combat, positioning units strategically to overcome large numbers of enemies. The game features over 20 recruitable allies, items to upgrade units, and a complex battlefield where careful planning is key. This entry emphasizes strategy more than previous titles, offering a fresh challenge for series veterans.
