Capcom is reportedly developing a Resident Evil Zero remake, aiming for a 2028 release. The project, codenamed “Project Chamber”, will likely follow the Resident Evil Code Veronica remake, which is said to arrive in early 2027.

The codename directly references Resident Evil Zero’s protagonist, Rebecca Chambers, a rookie medic from the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team. The original 2002 GameCube title served as a prequel to the first Resident Evil, exploring the events leading up to the Arklay Mansion incident that started it all.
Guardians of the Galaxy Actor Joins the Cast
One exciting detail in the report is the involvement of Jon McLaren, best known for playing Star-Lord in Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy. According to MP1st, McLaren listed “Project Chamber” on his résumé as an upcoming AAA title. He is reportedly performing motion capture work at Beyond Capture Studios in Vancouver.

That same studio previously collaborated with Capcom on Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6, hinting at a continued partnership. Since Resident Evil Zero features two main characters, fans suspect McLaren may portray Billy Coen, the escaped convict who partners with Rebecca throughout the game.
Expanding the Original Story
As with other Resident Evil remakes, Capcom plans to add new story content and expanded character moments. Reports suggest the train conductor from the game’s opening sequence will play a larger role, giving the Ecliptic Express section more narrative depth.

Players can also expect refined gameplay, modernized visuals, and a cinematic tone. These improvements mirror Capcom’s successful approach in its previous remakes, helping classic titles feel both nostalgic and fresh.
The Road Ahead for Resident Evil
Although Capcom has not officially confirmed Project Chamber, the timing aligns with the studio’s roadmap. Capcom is currently preparing to launch Resident Evil Requiem on February 27, 2026, just in time for the series’ 30th anniversary.

Requiem will reportedly wrap up long-running storylines involving the Umbrella Corporation and Raccoon City. Once that release arrives, attention will likely shift to Resident Evil Zero, marking the next step in Capcom’s ongoing effort to modernize its survival horror classics.
