NetEase has confirmed that Marvel Rivals has permission to introduce original characters to its roster. In an interview with MP1st, game director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen revealed that Marvel has granted the team creative freedom to design new heroes beyond the existing Marvel catalog.

When asked for details, Guangguang simply told fans to “stay tuned.” This suggests that while nothing has been officially revealed yet, the team could already be planning something unique.

What This Means for the Roster

Marvel Rivals has thrived on its seasonal updates, adding new characters regularly since launch. Season 1 introduced the Fantastic Four, while later updates brought Ultron, Emma Frost, Blade, and Phoenix. Now, with the possibility of original characters, NetEase could expand the game in new and unpredictable directions.

While the community is excited, some fans are cautious. Many players still hope to see classic Marvel icons before original characters take the spotlight. Still, history shows that new heroes can become fan-favorites, much like Luna Snow, who first debuted in Marvel Future Fight and now shines in Marvel Rivals.

Creative Possibilities for Marvel Rivals

Original characters could bring fresh lore, unique powers, and unexpected storylines. NetEase could even pull from prior collaborations with Marvel Future Fight, potentially including figures like Sharon Rogers, the alternate-universe daughter of Captain America and Peggy Carter. With Marvel Rivals’ multiverse setting, new heroes would fit seamlessly into the narrative.

NetEase has already confirmed at least 10 years of support for the game, so there is plenty of room for experimentation. Even if original characters debut, the team still plans to release two new heroes every season.
