According to a report by The Mainichi, Sony plans to cut around 250 jobs at its key media manufacturing facility in northeastern Japan . Currently employing approximately 670 workers, the manufacturing base in Tagajo, Miyagi Prefecture will undergo restructuring with early retirement packages offered.

Producing digital copies is cheaper than manufacturing physical games, which involve discs, cartridges, cases, and other materials.
