Patreon, a membership platform which provides business tools for content creators to run subscription based services has lay off their entire security team today.

According to BBCWorld News Today, Patreon in their statement with Business Insider mentioned that their decision to lay off their security team is part of a “strategic shift of a portion of our security program.” Patreon also mentions that as a global platform, we (Patreon) will always prioritize the security of our creators’ and customers’ data and that the changes made this week will have no impact on their ability to continue providing a secure and safe platform for our creators and patrons.

Senior Security Engineer at Patreon – Emily Metcalfe had made a statement over on her LinkedIn account saying that both her and the rest of the Patreon security team were no longer part of the company and are now looking for any other Security or Privacy Engineering roles.

The news had also reached over on Twitter and users have voiced out their thoughts in regards to the lay off.

Ultimately, the decision that Patreon had made did not sit well with the community and the general public were worried about their security details on the website and some even suggested that it’s time to switch platforms entirely. As of time of writing, Patreon has not made an official statement in regards to this situation.
