Type Moon’s Fate series has brought many figures from myths and history together as servants to battle it out in The Holy Grail War. And with the release of Fate/Grand Order and its all-encompassing need for more gacha, that number has increased even higher.

With all these servants you’d almost be concerned that Fate might run out of heroic figures to summon but that is really no concern. There are still plenty of famous people throughout history that Type-Moon hasn’t turned into anime girls yet. Here are just five of such figures that we think could make for good servants in the Fate series.

Hang Tuah

As GamerBraves is a Malaysia website, we figured it’d be best to start with Malaysia’s most famous hero, Hang Tuah. Hang Tuah was a warrior from the Sultanate of Melacca, a master martial artist who wields a famous Keris (dagger) called the Taming Sari that was believed to make him invincible.

The most famous story of him, like with many mythological figures, is a duel to death. He faced off against his best friend, Hang Jebat who had gone on a berserker-style rampage after Tuah was wrongly accused of adultery and sentenced to death. Tuah came out of hiding to face his friend in a tragic confrontation.

As Servant, we see Tuah as either a Saber or an Assassin; the former is based around the Taming Sari, and the latter focuses on his mastery of the martial art of Silat Melayu. Speaking of the Taming Sari, that would be his noble phantasm, giving him a sort of power-up and invincibility buff.

Having Hang Tuah would be cool since he would bring some Southeast Asian (and more specifically Malaysian!) representation into the Fate multiverse. Perhaps we can get him when Fate/Grand Order finally launches in Malaysia, you know, considering it launched for mobile devices pretty much everywhere else in SEA.

Lady Godiva

Lady Godiva was the wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia. In order to oppose her husband’s strict taxation laws on the people of Coventry, she protested by riding on a horse through the streets stark naked.

So yeah, her legend involves her taking her clothes off while riding a horse. How has she not been made a Rider in F/GO yet? Making the ascension variants would be easy!

We should also note that part of her legend was the creation of the term ‘Peeping Tom’. It was believed that a man named Thomas got a glimpse of Godiva in the nude and he either went blind or died on the spot.

That’s it, that’s the noble phantasm right there. If Brunhilde can power up her noble phantasm based on how yandere she is for her opponent, an eye-popping protest streek is definitely on the table for the Holy Grail War.

Yeah, a lot of this entry is joking about how horny F/GO can get but if you’re going to go horny might as well go all the way with it and put in some more fitting oddball choices. I’ll take it over whatever they were doing with Boudica.

Abraham Lincoln

If the throne of heroes stores kings, cowboys, and serial killers, why not a president, and what better President than the 16th President of The United States Abraham Lincoln, the man that freed the slaves and won the American Civil War.

Other than having one of the most spectacular beards in history, Abraham Lincoln is a well-known leader and even acts well as a fighter thanks to his past as a woodcutter (and a vampire hunter).

Within the world of Fate, couldn’t you just see Abe launching onto the battlefield with dual-wielding axes in each of his hands? Perhaps his noble phantasm could be a reality marble that summons his troops from the Battle of Gettysburg to give the enemies a cannon to the face.

Lincoln is actually mentioned as a servant in Type-Moon Ace magazines which states that he would qualify as a Saber or Berserker. Both of those would be great but I’d say he could probably qualify for Ruler as well.

Yeah, Ruler is mainly for saints but this guy freed the slaves and was known as ‘Honest Abe’ for his belief in truth and integrity. I’d say that’s pretty saintly, it’s got to be at least on the same level as a guy who committed genocide on a bunch of snakes.

Dante Alighieri

Dante Alighieri is an Italian poet most well known for writing the Divine Comedy. Here, he (as his own self-insert) is led through the inner workings of Hell, Purgatory, and finally Heaven.

A lot of our modern ideas of Hell and the differences within it come from Dante’s writings, making him one of the most important writers in history.

In Fate, he would likely play the role of Caster, similar to other writers like Shakespeare and Andersen. The life-like descriptions he made of the fiery depths could make for fantastic attacks, summons, or noble phantasms like the tornadoes of lust or the frozen wasteland of treachery. All nine circles could offer many opportunities for Type-Moon to get creative and hey, if Yugioh Dante can summon demons, Fate Dante could definitely do one better.

The best part about Dante though is that he didn’t even write the Divine Comedy for study or religion, it was basically his personal fanfic. His self-insert is invited by my favorite author Virgil to go on a guided tour of hell, and every person he didn’t like just happens to be there. Just think about how salty someone has to be to write over 700-pages of poetry explaining how people he doesn’t like are assholes and going to hell. I wanna have a My Room Convo with that guy.

Also, one thing established in Type-Moon is that heroic spirits can gain the powers that are associated with their myths, like Vlad III being able to turn into a vampire. With that in mind perhaps we could even have Dante be a saber with two pistols, dancing like a gay cowboy.

Marcus Brutus

Let’s end this list with one of history’s most famous traitors, the man from whom we get the word ‘Brute’. One of the murderers that killed Julis Ceaser: Marcus Junius Brutus.

Brutus was a Roman statesman who was Ceaser’s protege and close friend but he was greatly torn between his loyalty to Ceaser and The Republic. At this time Ceaser was becoming more tyrannical, accumulating power, and accepting the title “dictator for life”. In response to this, Brutus and his co-conspirators stabbed Ceaser to death in the senate.

Ceaser’s famous last words were “Kai su, teknon,” (you too, child) which Shakespeare adapted in his play as ‘Et Tu, Brute’ (and you, Brutus), one of the most famous lines in history.

Many Type-Moon fans have expressed interest in seeing Brutus as an assassin class, at least if all the fan-made servants based on him are to be believed. One common idea for his noble phantasm is that his opponent would get stabbed 23 times just as Brutus did to Ceaser.

With Ceaser and Cleopatra, history’s most well-known OTP both in the Fate universe, we might as well as add to the theatre drama by bringing in one of Ceaser’s most well-known frenemies. Seeing these two interact after all this time would make for some great conflict especially if Chaldea forces them to work on the same team.

Well, that was our completely serious list of historical/mythological figures we’d like to see ascend to the throne of heroes as servants in Fate.

With F/GO still going strong, I think there’s actually a chance some of these could actually happen, probably nothing like we’ve described them in this article but that’s part of the fun of Type-Moon. You never know quite how they’ll depict different figures and cultures but it’s they’re always bound to be interesting, and have the potential to be your new waifu.
