TOHO Entertainment Asia (TEA) has announced the addition of the anime series Though I Am an Inept Villainess to its lineup of animation titles. The series is set to premiere on July 12, 2026, on Netflix and various other platforms across Asia and worldwide.
The show is based on the light novel by Satsuki Nakamura and follows the story of Kou Reirin, a well-liked figure in the imperial court, who gets swapped into the body of the disgraced Shu Keigetsu through forbidden magic. The body swap sends both characters into complicated and dangerous situations rooted in palace politics. As Keigetsu struggles with her new body’s poor health, Reirin is left to face the consequences of Keigetsu’s past actions during a high-stakes trial. The story unfolds amid a larger conflict where maidens from the Five Clans compete for the Crown Prince’s attention.
A new trailer for the series was released on June 9, featuring a cast highlight that includes voice acting veterans Ai Kayano, who plays Shu Gabi, and Inori Minase, who voices Ran Houshun. The trailer also revealed that the opening theme, titled Sunny, will be performed by singer-songwriter milet.
Fabio Murayama, Managing Director of TEA, shared the company’s enthusiasm for the new title. “TEA is excited to broaden our offerings with Though I Am an Inept Villainess,” he said, adding that the company hopes to grow its business across Asia through key collaborations and merchandise development using the series alongside its existing lineup.
TEA is the main company handling this title in the region. Beyond this new addition, the company also serves as one of the co-merchandising partners for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 and the sci-fi action and adventure series Snowball Earth, both in collaboration with MUSE. TEA also manages the historical mystery title The Apothecary Diaries and the romantic comedy The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten Season 2, with its representation focused primarily within Asia.
