Sony Interactive Entertainment has released Climate Station, a free interactive app that uses gaming technology to help people learn about climate change. The app is now available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2, turning complex climate data into an easy-to-understand visual experience.
Climate Station transforms decades of climate science research into an interactive journey. Instead of reading about climate change, users can explore and interact with real scientific data using the same technology found in modern video games. The app works as part of Sony’s partnership with the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance, which brings gaming companies together to promote environmental awareness.
On PlayStation 5, players use the DualSense controller to navigate a detailed 3D globe, zooming into different climate events and data layers with high-quality 4K visuals. PlayStation VR2 users get an even more hands-on experience, using the VR controllers to directly manipulate and explore Earth in virtual reality.
The app uses real scientific data from trusted sources like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), making the information both accurate and engaging.

Four Ways to Explore
Climate Station offers four different modes to learn about climate change:
Weather Year shows Earth’s weather patterns throughout a full year, displaying clouds, storms, wildfires, floods, and droughts as they happen across the globe. Users can see how these events connect to show Earth as one big, interconnected system.
Observations lets users explore over 100 years of climate data, from 1901 to today. An interactive globe shows temperature changes with colored pins – red for areas getting warmer and blue for areas getting cooler. Users can click on any location to see detailed climate records for that area.
Projections shows five possible future scenarios based on different choices about carbon emissions. Users can see how different decisions today might affect temperature, weather, sea levels, and ecosystems by the year 2100.
Explainer Library contains 90 minutes of expert videos that break down complex climate science into easy-to-understand explanations, covering topics like extreme weather and climate models.

The app begins with a guided tour that introduces users to each feature. As they complete sections, new tools and exploration options become available. Climate Station aims to make climate science accessible to curious explorers, data enthusiasts, or anyone wanting to understand the forces shaping our planet. Climate Station is available now as a free download on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2.
