Sony and Honda have officially called it quits on the AFEELA, ending what was one of the more unusual crossovers between the gaming world and the auto industry.

The car was developed under Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture the two companies formed back in 2021. It was originally planned to launch in 2025 and was being built around what the companies described as a “premium entertainment experience.” A big part of that experience was PlayStation.

Sony Honda Mobility confirmed it is discontinuing development of both its first model, the AFEELA 1, and a planned second model, according to a report by Nikkei. The venture pointed to shifts in the EV market as the reason behind the decision. Honda has been reassessing its electric vehicle plans as global EV sales have slowed down. Earlier this month, the company cancelled three other EV launches planned for North America and disclosed expected losses of $15.7 billion.

In a statement, Sony Honda Mobility said that “the underlying assumptions of Sony Honda Mobility’s business operations, such as the utilization of certain technologies and assets planned to be provided by Honda, were fundamentally altered.”

For anyone who was looking forward to the car, there is at least one small silver lining. Gran Turismo 7 added the Afeela prototype back in April 2024, followed by the AFEELA 1 itself in an August 2025 update. So while the real thing is gone, you can still take it for a spin on the track just not in the way anyone originally imagined.
