Square Enix has released a new trailer for Octopath Traveler II, featuring The Merchant, The Scholar as well as a look into the new battle mechanic for the game.

Partitio, The Merchant, has witnessed the rise and fall of the pioneer town he calls home and now sets his gaze upon the horizon. He embarks on the journey with only the scent of commerce to lead his way

Partitio comes with a number of abilities that will surely help you in your journey, such as:

• Purchase items from townspeople
• Hire people to join you on your journey
• Reap various rewards when purchasing items with Business Partners

Osval, The Scholar, has spent his entire life in prison for murdering his wife and daughter. He has freed himself from the frigid cell and is now on the hunt to exact his revenge.

Osvald offers his own sets of abilities to aid you, such as:

• Scrutinize people to glean information
• Mug townspeople for their belongings
• Discern enemy weakness at the start of the battle with Study Foe

Octopath Traveler II introduces new ways to travel across the continent, starting with your very ship that you can customize to your liking.

The game will also a new battle mechanic ‘Latent Powers’, special unique abilities that each character can unleash to change the tides of the battle, for example:

• Osvald’s “Concentrate Spells” that allows him to focus spells on a single foe with greater potency
• Partitio’s “Hoot and Holler” that instantly replenishes BP.

Octopath Traveler II is an RPG game by Square Enix set to release on PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch on February 24th, 2023. The Steam version will be released on the following day.
