Capcom has dropped a major announcement- Monster Hunter is getting a new mobile spinoff, titled Monster Hunter Now with its own closed beta

Made by Pokemon Go company Niantic, Monster Hunter Now features the same AR-based gameplay of looking for monsters in the real world.

However, in true fashion, rather than catch them to befriend them the game has you, well, hunting them.

The game is set to release this September, but you can sign up for the Beta now via the website ahead of its launch on April 25th.

The combat shown in the teaser video seems similar to the raid combat in Pokemon Go, where you’ll be swiping to dodge through Monster attacks and either tapping or swiping to use your own.

EDIT: GameSpark has also published more details about the gameplay, which primarily has you collecting from resource nodes in real-world location.

Players won’t have to worry about long, 50-minute hunts either- combat is locked to 75 seconds, and you can paintball them for later.

Unlike Pokemon Go, it looks like Now won’t need you to necessarily be in the area to fight a monster- GameSpark’s preview mentions that you can save fights for later, though it’s unclear how the specifics of that will work.

The game will also feature co op battles where you’ll be able to hunt with your friends.

We don’t know much else about the gameplay, but given the Monster Hunter series staples, its safe to assume you’ll be hunting monsters for part, which in turn would provide better gear.

Niantic has become the go-to company for developing AR location-based spinoffs following the success of Pokemon Go.

They’d previously developed other titles such as Harry Potter Wizards Unite as well as Transformers: Heavy Metal.
