After the crazy success of Amazon Prime’s Fallout TV series, the mobile version of Fallout Shelter has seen its daily revenue grow 10 times!

Yes, not only are thousands of players revisiting the various Fallout games on PC and consoles, but many have joined in the settlement management fun of Fallout Shelter.

This data was shared with us by mobile app analyst AppMagic, where it was revealed that for almost 3 weeks after the release of the TV series, Fallout Shelter maintained its revenue at $200k daily.

Since its launch in the summer of 2015, Fallout Shelter has generated over $122M in lifetime revenue with over 79M downloads.

Despite 9 years on the market, the shelter management game will manage to generate around $500k a month.

AppMagic’s analysis noted that Fallout Shelter was generating around $18k per day during the first quarter of 2024, but the numbers skyrocketed to over $200k per day after the debut of the TV series on Amazon Prime.

While the popularity of the Amazon Prime TV series helped drive a lot of players into the game, AppMagic noted that the developers of the title do deserve the credit for keeping the game updated with content – especially with the TV tie-in content such as characters from the show appearing in the game.

Aside from in-game activities and content, the game’s app store page was also being refined with references to the TV series, with words “strategically placed to grab and hold the interest of potential players.”

As a result, Fallout Shelter jumped high up in the post-apocalyptic genre charts during the TV series hype period, becoming the top featured game and ranked second in both revenue and downloads, according to AppMagic.

The spike in player count and revenue in Fallout Shelter goes to show how well-executed IP expansion to different media, and the importance of franchise development and transmedia strategies like The Last of Us, Arcane, or Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, that came before.

In the mobile game market, it was revealed that about 30% of in-app revenue is derived from games based on existing franchises, unveiling how much players are drawn to familiar brands such as Fallout.
