Blizzard Entertainment and Days of Wonder have teamed up to bring you Small World of Warcraft, a board game designed for 2-5 players based on the Small World universe. The announcement was first spotted at Blizzcon 2019, with the trailer now out.

In Small World of Warcraft, players choose combinations of special powers and races from the Warcraft universe, such as Portal Mage Pandarens or Herbalist Goblins, and vie for control of Azeroth. To help them achieve dominance, players will occupy legendary terrains and seek control of powerful artifacts. However, all empires must eventually fall, so players will need to be ready to put an overextended race into a state of “decline” and lead a new one to rule Azeroth.

A new day dawns on Azeroth. A day like every one before it, and every one after. A day of merciless struggle for the control of the World of Warcraft. Not only is this Small World territory far too tight for everyone, it also hosts the never-ending conflict between the factions of the Alliance and the Horde. Dawn has broken and the time has come to take your place on the front lines.

This will be a stand-alone board game set in the world of Azeroth. 2-5 players will vie for control of several islands in this hostile world, their only hope is to pick the right combination of races and special powers. Stake your claim on land, defeat your neighbours and expand your territory. Occupying legendary places and controlling powerful magical artifacts will help you reach new levels of domination. Even so, empires will still fall, so be ready to put your race into decline, then lead a new one to glory to eventually rule Azeroth.

This time, it was all about intimately mixing the spirit of Small World with the Warcraft universe, so that both worlds reflect on each other.

The concept of Legendary places and artifacts, first introduced in Small World Underground, naturally found its place here. I also introduced a game mechanism that had been on my mind for a while: traveling between distant places.

It was also a new way of working: the World of Warcraft Universe Team at Blizzard tried each of the successive versions. Their ideas and comments helped refining and enriching the game.
