Someone illegally uploaded a clip of the ONE PIECE STAMPEDE movie on Youtube. ODEX Malaysia and Brunei have traced the leak to a Malaysian cinema. “We have painstakingly re-build the trust with Japanese copyright owners with a clean slate since the 2017 cinema video recording incident,” according to the Facebook post. The local anime community has once again has its credibility hit with a repeat incident.

ODEX’s post has a plea for other fans to help stop video recording in cinemas. Southeast Asia’s sales is smaller in comparison to Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, USA and Europe regions. Thus, Japanese copyright holders can simply opt to stop movie showings to protect other, bigger markets.

The perpetrators could be jailed or fined. Meanwhile, their actions would cause the rest of the Southeast Asian region be unable to watch anime movie releases in cinemas. ODEX calls on other anime fans to stop those they see recording, and to inform staff to ensure the content is deleted. As it is, video recording is a criminal offence in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, & the Philippines.
