[Gamescom 2019] Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint Demo Gameplay

We got a taste of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint at Gamescom 2019! The game is scheduled for 4 October release, so let’s see how it plays!

There’ll be two modes in the game: Elimination and Sabotage. What we tried was the 4v4 Elimination mode. There are 6 maps and 4 classes available.

From first looks, the locale is beautifully realized, though not to distraction, fortunately. There’ll be in-game banter and visible bullet trails, so it can be easier to be aware of your surroundings. Marking last spotted enemy locations is possible. This confers gameplay advantages by outlining the enemy and making movements more easy to predict. Environmental items or features are available for use, like hacking a terminal to reveal enemy locations. Sprinting requires stamina, the bar at the bottom of your screen.

All classes have access to all guns, and some also share talents (skills). They’ll all have their own exclusive talents, as well. Likewise, they all are able to use drones, along with class specific ones. As an example, the Medic’s drone is an ultimate ability able to revive or heal remotely. Looks like you can save up to three presets on the loadout screen.

Rounds last roughly 8 minutes each in the demo. We can’t tell how big the maps are for now if we want to compare it to Wildlands, but we can see quite a few spots to maneuver around. It’s definitely a game you’d need to learn the maps for and learn to plan attack or defense plans. Communication with your fellow teammates will be key. You’ll be able to revive downed teammates if you reach them before they bleed out.

A quirk of the game is that the glass cannot be broken. This can remove an aspect of gameplay where you can’t take shortcuts through glass doors, but think of it as a layer of challenge. How will you maneuver more effectively? It’ll be up to you and your team to figure it out.
