CD Projekt Red confirmed in an interview with Game Developer that The Witcher IV is able to run on current-gen consoles. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski told the interviewer that they can come to the studio and see that the game is playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
When CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would be releasing on PS4 and Xbox One, everyone was skeptical. And although they did deliver on their promise, it wasn’t its best version. That specific console generation was clearly under-equipped to run it the way the devs intended.
Nowakowski spoke on Cyberpunk 2077’s infamous release during the interview. “There was this, as it turned out, false belief that toning it down to whatever was the current gen is not going to be that much of a challenge.”
The co-CEO then reaffirmed that they’re a bit more careful with The Witcher IV’s development to ensure the game runs properly on their targeted platforms. He expounded on not making the same mistakes they’ve made with their previous RPG of cleaning up snags much later in the development instead of facing them head-on.

“Back in the past, if we missed one or two, we were like, we’re gonna catch up with that later on. Sometimes we did, but sometimes we didn’t, and then two milestones or three milestones down the road, you have like four or five missing checkmarks, and it’s not that easy.”
The studio recently revealed that it’s targeting a 2028 release window for The Witcher IV, eight years since the launch of the current-gen consoles. With the studio making a point to not have another Cyberpunk 1.0 release, it appears that they’re taking a more cautious approach. Furthermore, if the PS5 tech demo is anything to go by, The Witcher IV is looking to be on the right track.
