Toei just surprised One Piece fans during the franchise’s recent anniversary celebration by announcing two movie projects. God Valley is set to release in 2027, while Baad comes out two years later in 2029.
Fans of the franchise will immediately recognize the titles, with God Valley adapting the flashback story shown in the Elbaph Arc currently airing in the series. It reveals what truly happened during the infamous incident 38 years ago, when the Rocks Pirates, led by Rocks D. Xebec, arrived on the island, followed by The Roger Pirates and Monkey D. Garp.

For longtime fans, the upcoming 2027 film would finally give a fleshed-out storytelling experience of what really happened behind the destruction of God Valley, on the big screen, no less. The film also marks the first canon movie adaptation in the series, which is a bold move, considering that the Straw Hats aren’t present in this particular arc.
As for Baad, not much has been revealed about it apart from its 2029 theatrical release and its title. However, it is worth noting that it’s releasing on the anime’s 30th year anniversary.
The last One Piece film, Red (2022), proved to be commercially successful, generating over $200 million worldwide. It became the franchise’s highest-grossing project, and four years later, it’s still one of Japan’s top-earning films overall.
With the recent success of anime being adapted to the big screen, like Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Demon Slayer: Infinity Slayer, it’s a safe bet to say that fans yearn for more anime stories on the big screen.
