Everstone Studio and NetEase Games unveiled “Heaven’s Threshold”, a brand new chapter to Where Winds Meet, releasing on August 20. It immediately follows where players last left off in the story, leaving the safety of the Mountain City for the summits of the DLC’s namesake.
Heaven’s Threshold introduces new story missions, mechanical monsters, and puzzle-filled dungeons, among a myriad of free content. According to the devs, the expansion will begin with a community-wide “Cloudtop Ascent” building event, which will gradually open up the new map.
Verticality is one of the main selling points of the mountainous area, featuring explorable crumbling observatories and cinematic drop-offs.

Perhaps the most exciting addition to the DLC is the addition of Colossal World Bosses, the Inkpincer Scorpion and Cloud-Seizing Serpent, both results of ancient inventors. Fighting these titans requires perfectly timed strikes when their armor opens up to expose vulnerable joints.
Hidden Mountain’s second chapter also debuts the Evershift Labyrinth Dungeon, an underground multi-layer maze. Players would have to navigate through its rotating wooden gears while fighting security constructs.

Players will also get their hands on a new campaign, involving a team-up with a young boy to infiltrate an abandoned valley of rogue blacksmiths. The story would center around a moral decision on whether the ancient craftspeople should stay hidden or use their advancements to help the world.
The announcement trailer also showed the return of Qianye, one of the game’s main antagonists, whom players have collectively been waiting for since Chapter 1.

Combat expansions will also be introduced in the DLC in the form of two new mystic skills. Bursting Nine is a nine-arrow attack great for groups of enemies, while World to Sword is a unique technique that turns excess healing powers into flying energy blades.
Also, just in time for China’s Ghost Festival, the DLC introduces an eerie solo survival mode set in a haunted mountain shrine. Meanwhile, those who prefer something lighter can also try Chasing with Kite, a racing mode that can be played solo or with friends.
Where Winds Meet is also joining Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, from August 26 to 30. Fans can visit their booth to try a demo of Hidden Mountain’s finale as well as a new Drunken Master fighting style.
