Nintendo has announced that the original Nintendo Switch, the Switch Lite, and the Switch OLED Model will be discontinued in Europe starting in mid-February 2027. The news came as part of a company FAQ covering upcoming battery-related changes to several Nintendo products sold in the region. Despite the coming discontinuation, Nintendo says all three consoles will keep being manufactured through 2026 and will stay widely available across Europe until then. The original Switch first launched in March 2017, followed by the Switch Lite in 2019 and the Switch OLED Model in 2021.

The discontinuation notice was included alongside a larger announcement about battery updates affecting mostly the Switch 2 family of products in Europe. Nintendo said the changes are being made so its hardware meets new European Union rules requiring user-replaceable batteries. These updated products will begin rolling out starting this summer.
Among the changes, new Joy-Con pairs, including the Joy-Con (L) Neon Blue and Joy-Con (R) Neon Red, will arrive in stores at different times through the year starting this summer, depending on color. These will have the same battery capacity and weight as the current versions.
The Nintendo Switch 2 console itself is expected to get its updated version in autumn. It will carry a battery capacity of 5172mAh, about 1% smaller than the current 5220mAh battery. The console will also weigh slightly more, around 411g on its own and about 548g with Joy-Con 2 controllers attached, compared to 401g and 534g currently. The Joy-Con 2 controllers included with the console will also use user-replaceable batteries going forward.

Updated Joy-Con 2 pairs are planned for this winter. Battery capacity will stay the same, though each controller will be slightly heavier, with the left controller going from about 66g to 68g and the right controller going from about 67g to 69g.
With these changes rolling out over the next several months, European shoppers looking to buy the original Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED Model will still have time to do so before supplies are phased out early next year.
