Granblue Fantasy: Relink was already a strong action-RPG when it launched, pulling in fans with its fast combat and satisfying co-op grind. But over time, players started asking for more depth in the endgame and less pressure on pure reflex-based play. Cygames listened, and their answer comes in the form of Endless Ragnarok, a massive expansion set for global release on July 9, 2026. Based on a 45-minute hands-on media preview and developer sessions with creative director Tetsuya Fukuhara and narrative director Sanshiro Hidaka, this expansion touches nearly every part of the game, from its story and characters to how combat and progression work at their core.
The Story Keeps Going After the Ending
Endless Ragnarok picks up right where the original campaign left off, after the defeat of Lilith. The peace in the Zegagrande Skydom does not last long. Mysterious gateways begin tearing open across the sky, and with them come the Ragnalia, massive world-ending beings called the Heralds of Doom. The title itself is actually a nod to a background music track from the original game that featured the word “Ragnarok.” From that starting point, the team built out a central theme around the idea of an apocalypse that never truly ends, not a single disaster, but a constant, ongoing state of crisis.

The expansion adds six new playable characters, each built around a different style of play. Beatrix is a high-risk tactical character who uses custom buffs and timed charge attacks. Eustace is a fast, mobile ranged fighter for players who prefer staying at a distance. Gallanza is a large Draph character built around slow but extremely heavy hits. Maglielle is a caster who summons and drops hundreds of floating swords on enemies. Fraux is a close-range martial arts fighter who calls on her Summon to land powerful punches. Fediel rounds out the group as a close-quarters spellcaster who uses Dragon Magic.
Combat and Progression
The core combat in Endless Ragnarok still keeps the dodging and perfect-blocking that the original game is known for, but it adds a much bigger focus on spatial awareness and resource management during boss fights. One clear example from the preview is an encounter with The World. During that fight, players have to track attack routes, coordinate with their party to move ground markers into safe positions before a wide area attack hits, and also destroy card-shaped environmental hazards before the boss absorbs them and gains major combat buffs. The attacks are more chaotic than what the base game offered, and players need to think more carefully about when and how they use their resources.
Combat also gets a new Summon Gauge that builds up during fights. Once filled, players can bring familiar Primal Beasts like Furycane or Managarmr directly into the battle and briefly control them. Under specific conditions, this can also convert the standard team finishing mechanic into a Primal Burst chain that deals significantly more damage than a normal Full Burst.

On the build side, the expansion introduces the Master Traits system, which overhauls character progression through a mechanics-focused grid. Each character has access to three path types called Insight, Essence, and Crux. Players can unlock traits within these paths and equip up to three at a time. Slotting three traits from the same path activates a special Style Perk Effect. How these traits work is specific to each character. For Gran, a defensive path lets him better protect teammates and absorb damage, while an offensive path increases his attack power, raises his damage cap, and shortens skill cooldowns. A third path called Combat Healer gives him stacking attack and damage cap buffs each time he uses a healing skill. For characters like Id, Maglielle, and Gallanza, the traits can change how their core mechanics function entirely, adding more variety even in multiplayer lobbies where two players pick the same character.

A Solo Mode for Progression
For players who prefer going at it alone, Endless Ragnarok adds a roguelite mode called The Conflux. It works as a dedicated solo progression mode designed to help players level up their characters through the early and mid-game. Instead of following a straight quest path, players choose between two branching portal options at the end of each stage, leading to different room types. These include enemy wave fights, boss encounters, puzzle rooms, and rest points. One standout room type is the Illusion Hall, where players walk through a space on their first pass and then need to identify what changed or what looks out of place on their second pass. Clearing rooms rewards players with Aura upgrades that can boost things like stun power, critical hit rate, critical damage, damage caps, and link attacks.

Final Thoughts
Endless Ragnarok feels like a genuine evolution of what Relink already did well rather than just a content drop on top of an existing foundation. The Master Traits system alone adds a meaningful reason to revisit characters players may have already put hundreds of hours into, and the new boss encounter designs push co-op coordination in a direction that the base game never fully explored. The Conflux gives solo players a proper space to grow without feeling left behind, and the six new characters cover enough different playstyles that most players will likely find at least one that clicks with them.

The expansion also brings true cross-platform play across PlayStation, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2, which addresses a concern the community had about keeping the player base active and matchmaking healthy over the long run. Cross-platform play is a practical addition that should keep lobbies active well past launch. For fans of the original game who have been waiting for a reason to come back, or for newcomers who missed Relink the first time around, Endless Ragnarok is shaping up to be a strong entry point into the Zegagrande Skydom this summer.
