Nintendo has announced Pictonico!, a new mobile app that transforms your personal photos into bite-sized minigames. The app will launch on May 28, 2026, for iOS via the App Store and Android via Google Play as a free-to-start release.
The project is developed and published by Nintendo. While the app is free to download, players must purchase game volumes to access most of the full content beyond a limited set of free demo minigames.
A Photo App That Turns Everyday Moments Into Minigames

Pictonico! takes a simple idea and pushes it into absurd territory. Players use real-world photos and convert them into short interactive scenarios. The result is a series of chaotic, humorous minigames built around familiar faces and moments.
According to the official description, the game turns everyday photos into unexpected situations. School athletes might appear on a red carpet. A boss could suddenly need help because they are hungry. Even family photos can turn into surreal interactive scenes.
Some examples include reconnecting friends while skydiving, a calm teacher revealing hidden strength, or a “final boss” scenario starring your best friend. The tone leans heavily into humor and surprise.
Free-to-Start Model With Up to 80 Minigames

Pictonico! uses a free-to-start model. Players can try a selection of minigames at no cost. However, full access requires purchasing game volumes.
Nintendo confirms that the game will include up to 80 minigames in total. These range in difficulty from simple interactions to more challenging scenarios. As a result, the app is designed for both casual play and longer engagement.
In addition, players can take new photos on the spot and immediately turn them into playable minigames. This feature allows for instant creation and sharing of content using friends or family.
Privacy and Online Requirements

Nintendo notes that Pictonico! does not require a constant internet connection. However, some features may need temporary online access. This includes the initial launch and purchase of game volumes.
Importantly, Nintendo also states that user photos are not sent to its servers. This means image processing remains local to the device, helping maintain privacy for players.
Launch Date Set for May 28
Pictonico! will launch globally on May 28, 2026, for iOS and Android devices. The app will be available as a free download with optional paid content unlocking the full experience.
With its unusual concept and photo-based gameplay system, Pictonico! continues Nintendo’s experimental push into mobile experiences that blend real-life content with interactive game design.
