Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed it will stop releasing its major single-player titles on PC, marking a significant change in direction for the PlayStation maker. Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, shared the news during a company town hall, as reported by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. The announcement lines up with an earlier Bloomberg report from March that first hinted at the shift.
Under the new approach, big single-player PlayStation games will stay exclusive to the PlayStation 5. This includes upcoming titles like Ghost of Yotei, Saros, Marvel’s Wolverine, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and God of War Trilogy Remake, all of which are now expected to remain console-only.
Online multiplayer games, however, are not affected. Titles like Marathon and MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls will still come to PC. Games published by Sony but developed by outside studios, such as Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora, are also still planned for PC release.
Sony first started bringing its PlayStation games to PC back in 2020, eventually putting major franchises like God of War and The Last of Us on Steam. For a time, it looked like the company was committed to expanding beyond its own console.
That approach, though, was never very consistent. PC versions typically arrived months or even years after the PlayStation release, and there was no clear or predictable schedule for when games would make the jump. Sony also drew criticism from PC players when it required them to create PlayStation Network accounts to play certain games.

Beyond the execution issues, several PlayStation games reportedly did not perform as well as expected on PC. There were also concerns internally that putting games on PC could weaken the PlayStation brand and reduce the appeal of buying a PlayStation 5.
With this shift, Sony is returning to a strategy it relied on for decades: keeping its biggest games tied to its own hardware to drive console sales. The move sets Sony apart from its two main competitors. Nintendo has largely kept its games exclusive to its own platforms, while Microsoft has gone the opposite direction, releasing its games on PC and even on PlayStation.
One additional factor worth noting is Microsoft’s next Xbox, which is rumored to run on Windows and support PC games. Keeping PlayStation titles off PC would prevent them from potentially running on a future Xbox console as well. Sony has not issued an official public statement on the matter.
