Toho Games has announced that its free-to-play mobile RPG Sakuna of Rice and Ruin: Hinuka’s Traversing Spirit Tale will end service on July 27, 2026 at 16:59 JST. The planned PC release on Steam has also been canceled.
The game launched on Android and iOS in Japan on February 5, 2026, making its total run just under six months at 5 months and 22 days. Developed alongside Edelweiss, the title is a separate experience from the original Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, featuring exploration RPG gameplay and new mechanics built around the free-to-play format.
In the official announcement, the developers said the decision to shut down the service was made after concluding that continuing to provide a satisfactory experience to players would be difficult. They also thanked players who supported the game since launch.

Toho Games is gradually stepping down in-game purchases ahead of the closure. Starting April 27 at 17:00 JST, the only available purchase will be the 160-yen gem pack. All microtransactions will stop entirely on May 28 at 10:59 JST. Players with Japanese domestic bank accounts will be eligible for a refund session following the game’s closure on July 27.
Hinuka’s Traversing Spirit Tale had a Steam page set up ahead of its planned PC launch, though it was listed with a region lock limited to Japan only. That release will no longer happen, and the Steam store page is set to be taken offline on May 28, 2026.
