World of Warcraft fans have been asking for player housing for years and at gamescom 2025, we finally got our hands on this long-awaited feature. Player housing is set to be one of the major new systems in World of Warcraft: Midnight, the next expansion in The Worldsoul Saga.

The demo immediately throws you into the housing system where you can actually own and decorate your own house. This isn’t just about placing a few items here and there – it’s a full home design experience that gives players complete control over their living space. The real magic happens when you discover you can add entirely new rooms to your house.

The system lets you choose different room shapes and place them wherever you want in your house layout. You can select from various shapes like squares, rectangles, circles, and more complex forms to build out your space exactly how you envision it. The flexibility here is impressive. Each room shape can serve different purposes based on how you use it, and you’re not locked into any preset design. The house can grow and change based on what you need or want.

The decoration system goes way beyond what most players probably expect. You can grab almost any item in your house and move it around freely. But it doesn’t stop there – you can also change the size of decorations, making them bigger or smaller to fit your vision.

Height placement is another game-changer. Items can be positioned at different levels, letting you create layered looks or put things exactly where they make sense. This level of control means every house can truly feel unique. Two players could have the same items but create completely different looks just by adjusting sizes and positions.

One of the most exciting details came from a Blizzard representative at the demo. They mentioned that the team is working on letting all your alternate characters (alts) share the same house design. This means if you spend hours perfecting your home’s look, all your different characters on the same account can enjoy that same setup.

This feature makes perfect sense for World of Warcraft players who often have multiple characters. Instead of having to decorate separate houses for each character, your design work carries over across your entire roster.

Based on our hands-on time at gamescom 2025, player housing feels like it could be a defining feature for World of Warcraft: Midnight.  Player housing represents a major shift for World of Warcraft. It’s not just a new feature, it’s an addition that will keep growing over time. The demo gives a strong first impression of a system that could keep players engaged for years to come.
