KLP48, the new Kuala Lumpur based sister group of Japanese idol group AKB48, has officially revealed their first generation of members. It was announced that the debut would be held in Summer 2024.
After drawing in thousands of hopefuls during the audition phase, the final lineup has been set after three months of selection and training by 48 Entertainment Sdn Bhd. This company is authorized by AKB48’s overseas sister groups licensor, Superball Inc., to manage the new group.
KLP48 is the latest member of the AKB48 family and stands out as the first all-girl idol group to be formed and headquartered in Malaysia, with an emphasis on international performances.
The first generation members of KLP48 will have 13 members, including 7 Malaysians, 1 Indonesian and 1 from Hong Kong, China. The lineup consists of 3 transfers from AKB48 and 1 transfer from Japan-based sister group STU48.

KLP48 is the 10th AKB48 overseas sister group, alongside JKT48 (Jakarta), BNK48 (Bangkok), MNL48 (Manila), AKB48 Team SH (Shanghai), AKB48 Team TP (Taipei) and CGM48 (Chiang Mai).

Similar to other AKB48 groups, each has its own unique color. KLP48 has been designated the color green, inspired by Malaysian jade, symbolizing a gentle aura, empathy, and the blending of diverse values.
On August 18, KLP48 will be joining AKB48, STU48, JKT48 and QUADLIPS at the AKB48 Group Live in KL 2024 ~First Cry~ concert. For more news, check out their official website.
