Malaysians Are Sending Nanami From Jujutsu Kaisen To Kuantan Because Gege Won’t

With Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 having reached a scene featuring Nanami name-dropping Kuantan, Malaysia, fans have decided it’s important to give the tired salaryman what he wants.

The episode, which I’m going to describe as lightly as possible, features Nanami going into battle while entertaining the idea of retiring to a house by the beach- specifically choosing Kuantan to go to.

Since the episode’s launch earlier this week, Malaysians have rallied in celebration of the only thing that could unite an entire country- an anime man talking about his desire to visit some of our best beaches.

While the episode itself is about how Nanami explicitly can’t go to Kuantan, that hasn’t stopped fans from doing what the series won’t:

Malaysian Twitter has really come together for what’s an otherwise horrifying episode- from image macros to full-on cosplay, everyone’s determined to make their fan-favorite character get to Teluk Cempedak

Some fans have even gone the extra mile: establishing a “Kento Nanami Memorial Shrine” on Google Maps.

That being said, there’s no way to tell if said memorial shrine was set up after the anime namedrop or if they’d done it in conjunction with the manga panel.

Considering we’re nowhere near New York or London levels of anime-ubiquity, it’s always nice to see Malaysia referenced in a series, especially one as popular as Jujutsu Kaisen.

The fact that it’s Kuantan, of all places, is even better: a sign that mangaka Gege Akutami has nothing but taste: he would later go on to reference Malaysia in another chapter, with an apology for making Kuala Lumpur look too much like Penang.
